2013: Hegarty Prize

The prestigious Hegarty Prize was established in 1987 in memory of Patrick Hegarty, Executive Director of PANPA (1983-1986). The prize recognises and celebrates the management potential in young news media executives.

The Hegarty Prize is a bursary of $A10,000. The funding is used to finance an overseas study tour of any aspect of newspaper and/or digital operations.

Judges said
Sally has consistently produced top-quality journalism and won many awards for her newspaper during her three years as editor. This year, she has taken her publication into the digital sphere and produced land-mark journalism promoting mental health in our rural communities. Sally is also the first female editor of The Land in its 99-year history.
