Fairfax Media has appointed Chris Freel as the company’s national agency sales director, a role he has been acting in for the past three months.
Mr Freel, who was previously the company’s NSW agency sales director, has been with Fairfax for five years, during which he has worked as agency group director and group sales manager.
At the recent PANPA Ad & Marketing Awards for 2014, Mr Freel and his team won the Sales Team of the Year award, for an entry that judges said displayed “good overall innovation, good case studies from big advertisers”.
Commercial director for Fairfax’s Australian Publishing Media, Tom Armstrong, said that during his time in the acting role, Mr Freel was responsible for “some significant advertising partnership solutions”.
“Chris has a great depth of knowledge of our suite of assets and audience strengths and he is very deserving of this promotion,” he said. “This appointment signifies the first key step in my strategic vision to build a commercial team with our eyes firmly on the future.”
Mr Freel said that he was excited about the new role and that there had never been a more exciting time to be involved in the media industry.
“The pace of change and opportunities to innovate are phenomenal. We have an amazing sales team at Fairfax and a fantastic suite of brands,” he said.
Mr Freel has more than 14 years experience as a media sales executive in the UK and Australia.
