Fairfax Media and the Nine Network have cancelled The Australian Financial Review’s television show, Financial Review Sunday, citing a lack of advertising support.
The show struggled commercially despite relatively high ratings in its Sunday morning timeslot.
Hosted by Deborah Knight, it was launched in 2013 as a complementary offering to the masthead’s print and digital products, with foundation partners CPA Australia and Westpac Group.
A statement from Fairfax Media read:
“The Australian Financial Review and Nine Entertainment Co have agreed not to go ahead with a third season of Financial Review Sunday.
“We have all enjoyed the experience and learned a lot in the process. Regrettably, advertising support was not sufficient to keep the show on air this year.”
Meanwhile, the merger between Macquarie Radio Network and Fairfax Media radio assets was given the green light by Macquarie shareholders at a meeting on Wednesday. This means the merger should be completed by the end of the month, as regulatory approval has already been granted.
