Richard Thompson has been appointed chief executive of the Kiwi Premium Advertising Exchange, a New Zealand programmatic exchange launched jointly by Fairfax Media, NZME, MediaWorks and TVNZ in November last year.
Mr Thompson, currently a partner at creative agency Contagion, has led relationships with Tourism New Zealand, including a global partnership with Facebook and Google.
He has more 17 years’ experience in digital media, including leading the MSN, XBOX and Bacardi business across Europe as digital strategy director for Universal McCann, and his role as general manager, digital across the VivaKi group in New Zealand.
KPEX board spokesperson Robert Hutchinson said Mr Thompson had a proven track record of digital innovation and building successful digital teams.
Mr Hutchinson said KPEX looked forward to bringing additional products and capabilities to buyers over the coming months.
“KPEX has performed ahead of expectations in its first three months of operation. Buyers have responded positively to having a New Zealand-based, brand safe, highly liquid exchange for premium advertising inventory,” he said.
Mr Thompson takes over from consulting CEO Duncan Arthur in mid-April.
