McKenna appointed head of News broadcasting

Siobhan McKenna – a partner at Lachlan Murdoch’ s private investment vehicle – has been appointed to the new position of group director of broadcasting at News Corp Australia, joining the boards of Fox Sports and Sky News, as well as Foxtel.

Ms McKenna, a former partner at management consultancy McKinsey & Co, is managing partner at Mr Murdoch’s Illyria, and represented Mr Murdoch’s interests on the boards of Ten Network Holdings and Nova Entertainment.

She resigned today from the Ten board to take up the News appointment.

News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller said Ms McKenna would provide strategic oversight to News’ broadcast assets and further develop the company’s portfolio. She would work closely with Foxtel chief executive Peter Tonagh, Fox Sports CEO Patrick Delany and Australian News Channel chief Angelos Frangopoulos.

“She has deep experience across multiple media categories, and is a sought after business leader and company director across varied industries,” Mr Miller said. “Her deep knowledge of our industry; its challenges and opportunities make her a great asset to our company.”

In another appointment announced yesterday, Simon Smith has been appointed executive director of content marketing. He will work closely with the existing content marketing team to develop strategies and initiatives for News DNA across multiple platforms to drive new partnerships and revenue.

Mr Smith was previously managing director of Fairfax Media’s content marketing division and has held senior roles within News Corp Australia and PBL. He also has been on the board on NewsMediaWorks.
