New editor for The Courier Mail

New editor for The Courier MailSam Weir (pictured) has been appointed to The Courier Mail.

Sam Weir, the editor of The Advertiser in Adelaide, has been appointed to head News Corp Australia’s Brisbane masthead The Courier Mail, replacing outgoing editor Lachlan Heywood.

Mr Weir has been editor of The Advertiser since 2012. Before this role, he was editor of The Sunday Times in Perth, where he was instrumental in driving change at the masthead and its associated website Perth Now.

Current Courier Mail editor Mr Heywood has resigned, after 20 years at News.

“Lachlan is a highly respected journalist and leader in our company who has edited both the Townsville Bulletin and The Courier-Mail with distinction,” said News Corp Australiasia executive chairman Michael Miller.

“I am personally disappointed he has decided not to remain with News Corp but I respect his decision and wish him the best for the future,” said.

A new editor will be appointed to The Advertiser in due course.
