The 36-page, semi-gloss Spectrum Magazine will be inserted into this Friday’s The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, and AFR Weekend.

It will be visually rich and provide comprehensive coverage of upcoming cultural events including classical music, blockbuster musicals, theatre, opera, art exhibitions, ballet and dance.

The magazine adds to Fairfax’s efforts to build its weekend arts and entertainment brand Spectrum.

The brand name was lent to Sydney-based arts festival, Spectrum Now, launched by Fairfax Media in 2015.

Spectrum Magazine is co-edited by the Sydney and Melbourne editors of Spectrum, Ardyn Bernoth and Lindy Percival.

Monique Farmer, Fairfax’s head of lifestyle and entertainment, said the new magazine would be something audiences would “hold on to as a valuable source of arts information and inspiration”.

Articles and interviews with international performers touring Australia will also feature in the magazine.
