The Australian has appointed Melbourne-based Nick Leys as editor of its media section.
The section appears in the newspaper on Mondays and online throughout the week.
Mr Leys began his career in 1999 as a cadet at The Sydney Morning Herald.
He later became a fact checker for ABC’s Media Watch before joining News Limited and The Australian in 2004. There, he was Sydney bureau chief and edited the Strewth column.
He joined The Sunday Telegraph in 2008, moved on to the Herald Sun in Melbourne two years later and in 2011, he returned to The Australian to edit the Media Diary.
Mr Leys is the fourth to take the position, replacing Nick Tabakoff, who joined the Commonwealth Bank in December, where he will be the executive manager of public affairs. Previous editors include Geoff Elliot and Stephen Brook.
