The readership of ABC News Websites surged in August, gaining ground on news.com.au which suffered a decline, according to the latest Nielsen digital ratings.
ABC News Websites gained 500,000 unique readers, an increase of 11 per cent, remaining in second place. The public broadcaster has been steadily improving in the past two months, largely due to reclassification and inclusion of data from the publisher’s app.
Despite a drop of 5 per cent, news.com.au retained the top spot with 5,593,000 readers.
The top seven remained the same in August, however, all bar the ABC and Yahoo7 News Websites showed slight losses.
News Corp Australia’s metro mastheads the Herald Sun and The Daily Telegraph reported gains, moving to 8th and 9th respectively.
The BBC has continued its gradual decline, falling from a high of 2,598,000 readers in May to 2,269,000 in August.
