A new focus on business journalism has been foreshadowed by publisher NZME, which has hired business commentator Fran O’Sullivan in a newly-created role.
Ms O’Sullivan will work across NZME’s digital, print, radio and events divisions as the publisher’s editorial director of business.
“The opportunity to take a hands-on role working collaboratively with NZME’s talented team across the whole business is too good to miss,” she said in a statement.
Ms O’Sullivan launched The New Zealand Herald’s annual “Mood of the Boardroom” survey of financial leaders, and has won the Westpac Financial Journalism Award and the Qantas Reporter of the Year award multiple times.
She will work closely with Herald editor Liam Dann, and the general manager of talk for NZME Radio, Dallas Gurney. She has long been a regular business commentator on Newstalk ZB.
“Fran and Liam make for a formidable duo – our audiences will be the big winners,” Herald editor Shayne Currie said in a statement.
Ms O’Sullivan began her role on Monday.
