NZME brands merge for rural content hub

New Zealand Media and Entertainment is rebranding its weekly rural news supplement The Land as part of a plan to merge brands to create a new online hub for all rural content.

The Land, which is published in NZME papers including Rotorua Daily Post and Bay of Plenty Times, will be renamed The Country and housed alongside other cross-platform content on

The site will also play host to content from NZME’s popular radio brand The Farming Show, which will also be renamed The Country.

Acting managing editor of The New Zealand Herald Murray Kirkness said it made sense to increase the reach of The Farming Show across NZME’s channels.

“It has a strong following in the farming community and also plays a social role in helping bring town and country closer together, shedding light and a different perspective on everyday issues,” he said.

The Country will be rolled out in early May, with digital and radio changes launching on Monday May 2, and regional papers printing The Country the following Thursday.
