Singapore’s broadsheet newspaper Today has outsourced the bulk of its editorial production to Australian company Pagemasters.
The company will lay out and sub-edit all content produced by the newspaper, with the exception of local news, which will be handled by the paper’s sub-editors.
The service will be performed out of Pagemasters’ office in Ho Chi Minh City.
On the team is Pagemasters’ chief sub-editor Lisa Chant, along with other Australian and New Zealand expats.
Peter Atkinson, managing director of Pagemasters, said the company hoped to further grow its business in the Asian region.
“This is a very pleasing first step, considering our Vietnam operation has only been recently established. We are engaged in encouraging discussions with other potential Asian clients and there seems to be a strong interest in the services we offer,” he said.
The company, a copy editing firm owned by Australian Associated Press, also provides sub-editing services to Fairfax Media, News Corp Australia, and APN.
MediaCorp, the company that owns Today, has said that no jobs from its in-house sub-editing team would be cut.
Today is Singapore’s second most widely circulated broadsheet paper.
