Paper’s podcast scoops radio nominations

National newspaper The Australian has scooped six nominations for the Walkleys, including two in the radio category for a podcast.Bowraville

The News Corp-owned title has been running the Bowraville Podcast about unsolved serial killings in northern NSW. The podcast has also been nominated in the Coverage of Indigenous Affairs category.

Overall, News Corp Australia and Fairfax Media are strongly represented in the list of finalists for the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

Announced last night, News has 15 nominations and Fairfax Media 14, including a co-production with the ABC.

The Age’s Ben Schneiders, Royce Miller and Nick Toscano picked up nominations in three categories for their “Sold Out” investigation about the underpaying of retail workers.

In the business journalism category, The Australian Financial Review was co-nominated for its work on the Panama Papers investigation, and Fairfax Media for its CommInsure scandal, a co-production with ABC.

The West Australian was nominated in the Scoop of the Year Category for Andrew Probyn’s “Mediscare”.

The 61st Walkleys attracted more than 1300 entries that were judged by 100-plus senior industry representatives. A full list of finalists is below.
