Deputy editor of The West Australian Michael Beach will become editor of The Sunday Times once Seven West Media completes its acquisition of the paper from News Corp Australia.The Walkley Award winner will take over from News Corp’s Rod Savage, editor of paper and its website Perth Now since 2013.
Mr Beach is also head of digital content for Seven West Media Western Australia (SWM WA).
His appointment is part of a string leadership changes announced by SWM after it secured approval from the competition watchdog to acquire The Sunday Times and PerthNow last month.
The West Australian’s sales director, David Bignold, will oversee the transition and integration of the News Corp assets into SWM in his new role as national commercial director, according to B&T.
Mr Bignold will be responsible for all agency and major client relationships outside of Western Australia and develop a new sales model to incorporate the WA newspapers into national advertising buys.
SWM WA also has a new revenue director in Damian Hampson, currently sales director of Seven Perth; and a new chief operating officer in Alan Clyne, currently CEO of Community Newspaper Group.
Paul Eteen-Bliss will take over as CEO of Community Newspaper Group in January 2017, leaving his role in Queensland as general manager of Quest Community News, owned by News Corp.
Community Newspaper Group is co-owned by SWM and News Corp and has a print readership of 534,000 across its 17 weekly titles covering metropolitan Perth.
