Seven West Media WA chief executive Chris Wharton has retired.
Mr Wharton had been with the media group for over 20 years. Starting off in community papers in 1995, he joined Channel Seven Perth in 2000 as managing director before becoming the managing director of The West Australian in 2008. Mr Wharton took his current role in 2011. He has also served on the board of NewsMediaWorks
The decision comes after Mr Wharton took extended leave from the company late last year.
Kerry Stokes, chairman of Seven West Media, announced the retirement today, describing Mr Wharton’s career as “a very long and successful innings”.
Mr Wharton said in a statement: “After more than 20 years, it is with mixed emotions that I have made the decision to retire from Seven West Media. The company has been very good to me and my family. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many wonderful people and I’ll miss them. I am delighted to have the privilege to remain a Telethon Trustee.”
Seven West Media are currently looking to fill the position.
