Shona Martyn appointed SMH Spectrum editor

Former Good Weekend editor Shona Martyn has been appointed editor of The Sydney Morning Herald’s culture magazine Spectrum, following a 17-year career at HarperCollins Publishing.

The move will mark Ms Martyn’s return to journalism, having previously held roles at the New Zealand Herald and Vogue Australia. Earlier, she had spent two years at Fairfax as Good Weekend editor from 1987 to 1989.

Her position on the board of the Sydney Writer’s Festival and her extensive knowledge of film, television, theatre, music and design made her ideal for the role, Fairfax said in a statement.

Ms Martyn will commence her new role on September 4.
