Starcom Mediavest Group chairman John Sintras has become the latest high-profile signing by IPG Mediabrands global chief executive Henry Tajer, as he settles into his new role in New York.
Mr Sintras will take up the position of president of global business development and product innovation, based in New York, reporting directly to Mr Tajer.
Mr Tajer has swooped on a number of Australians for key roles at IPG Mediabrands since his elevation to the top job earlier this year.
They include Danny Bass, who was lured from Group M to take over as Mediabrands Australian CEO.
It is understood Mr Sintras will take up his new position in the new year.
Mr Sintras had been with SMG for 30 years, and was a director of the group’s Global Experience Product as well as chairman.
Mr Sintras is proud of his achievements at SMG.
“It’s been a long and truly amazing journey with SMG in Australia and globally,’ he said in a statement
“I am enormously proud of the many milestones we have achieved together and I know that I leave the Australian business under the capable leadership of Chris Nolan and his executive team,” he said in a statement.
Mr Nolan, SMG’s chief executive, paid tribute to Mr Sintras’ accomplishments for the company.
“John has achieved a great deal in his career at SMG, as a leader for our business, an ambassador within the industry and philanthropist for the community,” he said.
“He has made huge difference to my career and personally I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with John and count him as a colleague and friend. We all wish him well with his new adventure.”
In 2012, Mr Sintras was inducted into the Media Federation of Australia’s Hall of Fame, and was awarded the AMI Certified Marketer of the Year
His role in Australia will not be filled, but his global role will be taken up by US-based Kathy Kline, who is a member of SMG’s Global Product Committee.
Mr Nolan will continue to report to SMG president, Asia Pacific Mike Amour.
