Fairfax Media’s stuff.co.nz portal has overtaken auction site Trade Me to become New Zealand’s most-visited home-grown website, according to this month’s Nielsen online ratings.
Stuff.co.nz is ranked only below Google, Facebook and Bing/MSN – none of which are New Zealand-run – in the May figures with a unique audience of more than 1.8 million.
It has seen a 4.5 per cent increase from April to May and a 25.7 per cent year-on-year increase, making it more popular than YouTube.
“In New Zealand, the digital world is now defined by Google for search, Facebook for social, and Stuff for content,” Fairfax Media NZ executive editor Sinead Boucher said in a statement.
“Usage is the ultimate engagement metric.”
Of the five million video streams delivered by stuff.co.nz every month, around 40 per cent is viewed on a mobile platform.
“We have had our eye on being the biggest domestic site in New Zealand for a while now,” Ms Boucher said.
