Dates for the industry’s Technical Excellence awards have been released by The Newspaper Works.
The awards are designed to celebrate the highest quality of print and production by newspaper print centres across Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Asia.
They are held in conjunction with the Newspaper of the Year awards, which will have its gala night at The Ivy, Sydney, on August 21.
“These awards are among the most important for our industry,” said the chief executive of The Newspaper Works, Mark Hollands. “Beautifully printed newspapers have a high impact on readers and advertisers alike.”
“When a print job is poor, an advertiser will be the first to scream. The importance of our production standards cannot be under-estimated.”
As normal, this year’s Technical Excellence Awards nominate four dates (listed below) for which print products – newspapers / supplements / NIMs – should be presented for judging. The date range for this year has been May 5, 2014 to June 2, 2014.
Printers wishing to enter weekly newspapers may pick a print time closest to the four dates to submit – e.g. if we pick a Wednesday date, and a weekly is printed on a Thursday – we will allow the closest Thursday edition to be put forward for judging.
Entrants must send three copies of their newspapers from two of the four dates specified, or those dates closest to them for weekly publications. Two copies will be selected at random from the two different days of publication. These will be taken as the basis for evaluation.
