Digital subscriptions to The Australian grew 12 per cent to 79,000 subscribers in the 12 months to the fiscal year ending June 2016.
Chief executive Nicholas Gray attributed the paper’s success to its “relentless commitment to deliver value to our members”.
Digital subscribers have grown every year since 2011 as new features were introduced and despite a rise in price from $3 a week to $8.
Growth accelerated in 2016 compared with 2015 with subscriptions growing 9 per cent.
The paper achieved growth of 83 and 27 per cent growth in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
The paper recently launched an Apple Watch app called Newsflash.
Editor-in-Chief Paul Whittaker said the paper’s digital presence “gives our readers more reasons to interact with us as we deliver our exclusive reporting, expert analysis and opinion”.
Digital subscriptions have since been embraced by News Corp Australia, Fairfax Media and APN.
