An editor-in-chief has been announced for HuffPost Australia, a joint venture between Fairfax Media and US news and opinion site The Huffington Post, with former News Corp Australia journalist Tory Maguire taking the top job.
She will be in charge of shaping the site’s Australian voice as she leads the digital platform’s editorial operations. She brings with her 15 years of experience at News including roles as national opinion editor and editor of news and opinion site The Punch.
Arianna Huffington, the president and editor-in-chief of Huffington Post Media Group, described Ms Maguire as a “first-rate journalist with deep digital roots”.
“[She] is truly passionate about utilising new media tools to both tell the stories that matter and engage with readers in new and exciting ways,” Ms Huffington said.
The announcement follows the appointment of chief executive Chris Janz, who said, “Tory knows how to spark conversations.
“Her impressive passion and energy will drive the delivery of HuffPost Australia as an engaging and influential platform for Australians to voice their thoughts, opinions and commentary.”
Ms Maguire has also appeared as a TV commentator on Sky News, Sunrise, The Project, Today and ABC’s The Drum.
She will commence her role in the next few months, ahead of HuffPost Australia’s launch.
