Social media will be a key driver of their coverage, especially Facebook, which has been under fire in recent months for disseminating fake news.
Fairfax Media’s editorial director Sean Aylmer said that the publications were committed to giving all Australians the full story.
“During landmark moments such as the US presidential inauguration this weekend, we see the importance of making our trusted editorial coverage openly available,” Mr Aylmer said.
The initiative, which runs from 9am Friday to 9am Monday, will provide users access to a live blog, live streamed video of the event and on the ground reporting from journalists in Australia and the US. Live coverage will begin from 12am Saturday.
