The new division will cover a number of News’ regional and community mastheads including Hobart’s Mercury, NT News, The Cairns Post, Townsville Bulletin, Gold Coast Bulletin and Geelong Advertiser.
The commercial leaders of each regional area will now report to Mr Trompf, who in turn will report to Damian Eales, managing director of metro and regional publishing.
Mr Eales said bringing the regional mastheads together will give the titles more focus, help them capitalise on opportunities and address their common challenges.
“By bringing these titles together into a new division, we can increase collaboration across editorial, marketing and advertising sales, delivering more for our readers and making it easier than ever for our commercial partners to engage with this important audience,” he said.
“Together, our regional portfolio has a monthly cross-platform audience of 1.7 million Australians, representing a platform of significant size and opportunity for advertisers and marketers.”
Sean Ryan will be leaving News as a result of the regional restructure as the role of state director, Queensland metro and regional publishing becomes redundant.
Mr Trompf starts in his new role on February 8.
A new general manager for The Cairns Post has yet to be appointed.
