Residents of the Sutherland Shire and St George will soon be able to access a new digital news source, as News Corp Australia announces its first digital-only news platform, the St George Shire Standard.
The new masthead will be part of the NSW community news division, NewsLocal.
“As a trusted community brand, NewsLocal is committed to connecting with local communities who are often seeking new ways to stay in touch with what’s happening on their doorstep,” a News Corp spokesperson said.
“The digital St George Shire Standard provides a new masthead and medium for our community in the Shire to stay informed.”
The Standard will cover a range of topics, including lifestyle, crime and electoral news, from Waterfall to Wolli Creek, incorporating areas within Sutherland Shire Council, Georges River Council and Bayside Council. It will be News’ first venture into this Sydney region.
Eliza Barr, the reporter launching the new project, said she was “thrilled”, as the content went live ahead of the soft launch of the site later this week.
“I am super excited for lunchtime swims, but I am even more excited to be part of a news organisation that is determined not just to survive – but to thrive,” Ms Barr said on Twitter. “To open a new local community masthead in 2018 is a big undertaking and I am so proud to be part of it.”
