Mr Davies comes to NewsMediaWorks with more than 20 years of media industry experience with media agencies and media owners. He most recently owned a consulting business and prior to that spent four years with Bauer Media as head of brand advertising strategy and director of media solutions. He joined Bauer from media agency OMD where he was national trading head, responsible for more than $600 million in media investment and clients including Telstra, Visa, Apple, Bose and St George.
He has held the role of deputy chairman of the executive committee at the Audit Bureau of Circulations on behalf of the Media Federation of Australia. Mr Davies has also worked in sales management roles at ACP Australia (now Bauer) and Murdoch Magazines.
Mr Davies replaces Charlie Murdoch, who is joining News Corp as general manager of trade marketing.
“Simon brings a depth of strategic and analytical thinking to this important role. His experience in the media sector, working with OMD on some of the country’s largest advertisers and then with media owners on sales strategy and solutions, will be invaluable to NewsMediaWorks as we continue to see advertisers re-evaluating and then investing back in newspapers and news websites,” Mr Miller said.
“I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of Charlie in the role during his five years with NewsMediaWorks. He has worked relentlessly to promote the sector and has overseen many initiatives and we wish him well at News Corp where we will continue to collaborate on behalf of the industry.”
Commenting on his new role, Mr Davies said: “I believe it’s an exciting time to be working in the news media sector as it shows positive signs of growth. Advertisers and their media agencies are seeking out trusted, credible media channels, with engaged audiences and news media is unrivalled on all those measures. I look forward to bringing my knowledge to the role and continuing the growth trajectory for news media.”
Mr Davies commences as marketing director on September 10th
