Maddison Connaughton will join Schwartz Media’s The Saturday Paper as editor.

Ms Connaughton will move across from her role as features editor at Vice. The writer and broadcaster also has bylines in Vox, The Age, Noisey and The Australian.

She was recently announced a 2018 finalist for the Walkley’s Young Australian Journalist award for her reporting on the Syrian border. The winner will be announced July 18.

The Saturday Paper’s editor-in-chief Erik Jensen said: “More than four years after The Saturday Paper launched, we are expanding our vision and purpose, and Maddison will be a key part of that. I can’t wait to see everything she brings to the masthead.”

The search for a new editor has been on since mid-last year, following Mr Jensen’s promotion.

Mr Jensen’s efforts as editor earned him the Hegarty Award for Young Executive of the Year at the 2016 Newspaper of the Year Awards (now known as the News Media Awards).
