Experienced newspaper executive Joan Withers has been appointed the chairwoman of New Zealand’s national broadcaster TVNZ.
Ms Withers has been CEO of Fairfax Media’s NZ arm, the publisher of its stuff.co.nz portal and run newspapers including the Sunday Star-Times, Dominion Post and The Press.
“Ms Withers brings continuity, solid industry knowledge and significant governance leadership experience to the role,” New Zealand’s broadcasting minister Amy Adams said.
Since 2009, Ms Withers has been on the TVNZ board. She currently chairs electricity company Mighty River Power, and sits on the board of ANZ.
The retiring chairman is Wayne Walden, who filled the role for four years.
