Mr Harris has worked for News Corp since joining it in London in 1981, when he worked in advertising sales at Times Newspapers.
He was then appointed advertising director and, later, publisher of the British Elle Magazine.
“Without a doubt, he would be one of the most experienced media executives in Australia,” News Corp Australia chief Julian Clarke said in a statement.
Mr Harris moved to Australia in 1991 where he has worked as the advertising director for The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, and The Sunday Telegraph, as the managing director of Mirror Australian Telegraph Publications, of Queensland Newspapers and of News Limited’s Group Newspapers and Digital Products division.
“When I joined the company as a classified sales adviser, I had no idea of the journey that lay ahead of me,” Mr Harris said in a statement.
“I have been privileged to have been given many wonderful opportunities and to have worked with some hugely talented executives and editors along the way,” he said.
Mr Clarke said he had worked with Mr Harris for more than 25 years and wished him all the best.
