News Corp Australia has named the shortlist of finalists from agencies around the country for the 2015 Australian Cannes Young Lions competition.

Seventy-two young creatives have come out on top of more than 400 entrants in print, digital, marketing and media categories, chosen by eight panels of industry judges.

Each finalist – individuals or teams of two – will receive a 24-hour brief, or 48 hours for film, following the format of the international competition in Cannes.

News Corp Australia has run the Australian branch of the competition for the past seven years. Director national sales Sharb Farjami said the industry had a huge appetite for it.

“In that time, it has only gotten stronger and the next round of the competition will be fiercely contested with 10 spots up for grabs for the most talented creative and advertising professionals to attend the most reputable creative festival in the world.”

Round two started on May 19. The winning teams will be announced at a breakfast on Friday, May 29, and will receive return flights to Nice, accommodation, and festival registration including access to all seminars, award ceremonies, showcases and the Cannes gala party.

Runner-up teams in media and print will have the chance to represent Australia at the Young Spikes Asia competition in Singapore in September.
